Professor Rana Pratap Singh, born on 1st February, 1959 in village Prithvipur of district Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh (India) was educated in Prithvipur, Dudahi, Kushinagar, Seorahi Gorakhpur and Indore for formal education. He earned Ph.D. in Life Sciences from Devi Ahilya University, Indore in 1985 in the field of Nitrogen Metabolism in Plants. Presently working as Director (Honorary) of Centre for Sustainable Agriculture and Environment; A R&D Centre of Prof HS Srivastava Foundation for Science and Society, Lucknow (www.phssfoundation.org), he is developing programs on the basic and translational research for Agriculture and Ecological Sustainability. He has been superannuated as a Senior Professor of Environmental Sciences in February,2024 from Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (A central university) located in Lucknow, where he worked as Incharge VC and Registrar, Director IQAC, Dean Academic Affairs, Controller of Examinations, Dean Research and Development, Proctor, Dean of Schools and Head of Department as well as Coordinator Centre for Industry University Partnership Program time to time. He has completed a successful tenure as Chairman, State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority, UP; A statutory body of MoEF, New Delhi during Oct,2017-June,2021 and as a member of State Environmental Impact Assessment Committee, UP during 2011-2013.

He is Fellow of National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), Pryagraj, Indian Water Resources by Indian Water Society (IWRS), IIT, Roorkee, International Society for Environmental Botanists, (ISEB), CSIR-NBRI, Lucknow, Indian Society for Plant Physiology, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi), Academy of Environmental Biology of India, Lucknow.

Professor Singh has worked as faculty of Bioscience at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak during 1986-2005 before joining as Professor in Environmental Science at BBAU, Lucknow in July, 2005. He has 38 years of PG teaching in the two universities and has successfully mentored and guided 8 postdoc, 42 Ph.D. scholars, 3 M.Phil. and about 150 Master students for their research. He has Worked as visiting scientist at AIIMS, New Delhi, University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada and Yunnan Agriculture University, Kunming, PR China. Earned 9 National and State Awards for research and academic contributions i.e. G. Panigrahi Memorial Award lecture (2022) by Indian Botanical Society, Lucknow, Maharshi Samman, (2020), RASSA, New Delhi ,Panjab Singh Vishisth Krishi Vaigyanik Puraskar ,Uttar Pradesh Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Lucknow, India (2016), Scientist of Excellence Award ,Society for Plant Research, Meerut, India (2008), AEB Honour Academy of Environmental Biology India, Lucknow, India (2012), R. D. Asana Medal ,Indian Society for Plant Physiology, New Delhi, India (1992), JEB Young Scientist Award , Academy of Environmental Biology India, Lucknow, India (1992), First prize award on Poetry Book ,Haryana Sahitya Academy, Chandigarh, India (1988-89), First prize award on Children’s Book Haryana Sahitya Academy, Chandigarh, India (1994-95) and other awards i.e. NSERC Biotech Visiting Fellowship - University of Guelph, Canada (1996), UNESCO ST Biotech Fellowship by UNESCO, Paris, France (1994), INSA Visiting Fellowship Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi, India (1992), Co-edited 18 books and published over 205 research publications which have been highly cited by the peers worldwide. His present research interests are" Understanding biodiversity and ecological behaviour of rhizospheric microbes, Development of novel Climate Resilient Multifunctional microbial stimulants and Rhizo engineering of beneficial soil inoculants for sustainable agriculture and to design novel below ground and above ground agro-ecosystems for enhanced ecological and economic benefits. Professor Singh is actively involved in promoting innovation, technology, cultural built-up, education and MSMEs for Rural upliftment.

Professor Rana Pratap is Editor-in-Chief of an International monthly Research Journal Physiology and Molecular Biology of Plants (PMBP, Thomson Reuters IF-3.4, NAAS IF>8, Scopus -3.6), Co-published by Springer Nature and Professor HS Srivastava Foundation for Science and Society. He is also Editor and Editorial board Members of 3 more International journals. Presently he is President of Four National Academic Societies "The Society for Science of Climate change and Sustainable Environment, Society of Environmental Sustainability, Indian Social Science Academy, Prayagraj (2025-26) and Parmarth Samaj Sevi Sansthan, Jhansi. He is General Secretary of PHSS Foundation for Science and Society.
